March 2008 (BC)

Now then, where was I?

Okay, so I probably can't recreate the lost post, and most of my disgust was directed at the chucklehead that is supposed to be running our country and have our best interests at heart (I'm not mistaken about that, am I?), not knowing that gas is approaching $4 a gallon, and oh, that might impact, um, everybody. But, at least we're not in a recession. Whew, what a relief!

Alright, can't talk about him anymore or my head will explode.

We're trying to plot our vacation, and I attempted to make reservations today, only to get an answering machine and as of yet, no call-back. :( It's frustrating to be ready to get things ironed out, and be stuck. But, it is a bed-and-breakfast, not a national chain, and with the benefits of that comes with the reality that they are only two people. So I will wait. I hate wait. (Recognize that, Farmie?)

Knitting-wise, I am in the final rows of the Keepsake Shawl. If I get it finished tonight, I will try to get pictures tomorrow. Once it is done, I'm going to try to finish one (or some) of the UFOs. I have the Must Have Cardigan (stupid sleeves!), the Silver Moon Evening Coat, the not-really Philosopher's Wool sweater, Vail, the un-named pink lace sweater, and a few others that may not make it off the island.

I have come to the realization that I absolutely hate working on my master's degree. So much so, that I have decided that by next spring, I must be done. So, I will be taking one class this summer, two in the fall, then the thesis class next spring. Fourteen months to go. I think I need one of those nifty count-downers for it on the blog. I have an annotated bibliography that I have to get done this weekend. 20 sources. Have I started it? Nope. How I'm going to be motivated enough to do two classes, I don't know, but it may involve a lot of coffee.

Okay, I think that's all I needed to say.

Not asking him to do anything about it, just asking for him to care. Or at least fake caring. I'm not naive enough to think that any one person can do anything in Washington. However, the leader of the country should at least come off as having some compassion for the average person. Would "I know that's going to hurt the American family and I will do what I can to influence a positive change in that matter" been too much to ask for? Apparently.

Gas prices are based on supply and demand. And right now, demand is high with surges in Asian consumption. http://peoplesgeography.com/2007/06/18/world-petrol-price-comparison-its-a-gas-gas-gas/ (Summer 2007) This compares what world prices are. I'd say we are very lucky. Blame Bush for whatever you feel you need to, but the price of gas is far from his control. Talk to Congress about gas taxes. Talk to your state about gas taxes.

How's the shawl coming? I can't wait to see it done.

Progress by the boatloads

At 8:53 pm . . . .

Wait, let's try that again . . . .

And in a reclining pose . . .

Ends all tucked in, just needs blocked. I was doing really well keeping up on the ends with each color change, until the end when the changes were happening faster and I was just excited to get finished.

To say I'm thrilled with the project is an understatement. Now, maybe I can get it blocked and a picture in daylight. Maybe.

Also, the Inn called me back and we are booked into a lovely bed and breakfast in Springfield, MO. It's now officially a vacation. Woohoo!

Why, yes I am avoiding homework, how could you tell?

(I know this has made the rounds before, but see the above title)

Stole off of another blog, I thought I would see how many of these I have seen. Not all of the ones I've seen have been my idea, some I was just an innocent bystander. Take for instance, The Notebook. Not my kind of movie at all. The way to tell if it's my kind of movie is if it has 1) vampires, 2) aliens, 3) ghosts, 4)action/adventure or 5) unbelievable quirkiness. I would have put my personal commentary on each one, but then if you want to play along, you would have to remove it all. Just know that some were nothing more than being too lazy to change the channel on a Saturday morning, and if quizzed, I would have no idea of the plot, characters, or anything meaningful. Similarly, there could be some on there I forgot I've watched.

I think I counted 136. The blog I got it from said if you marked more than 83 you had no life. She had 164, and preferred to think it was a sign you were in the mid-to-late 30's and weren't too old for going to the movies. I like that take. And besides, not my fault the creator of the list put so many of my favorites (Star Wars, Matrix, X-Men, etc.) on there.

I counted 118. Definitely boosts your score if you are older. I should have given myself double credit for a few of them as I have seen more than one version of said movie (Freaky Friday, Grinch, Flubber, King kong...) Geez. I am getting old!

I was 124.

88. So close to a life.

Random Stuff

So I'll just thank Ragged. :) The rules for the “You Make My Day” award are to re-present it to 10 people whose blogs bring you happiness and inspiration and make you feel happy about blog land. Let them know through email

Just overheard on a commercial, "If you or a loved one has experienced serious injury or death from using this product, contact our law offices immediately." Yes, if you have experienced death from using that product, I think you need to give them a call. Right now.

Ragged gave me a "You Make My Day"Award. I'm very appreciative, but I'm afraid I will have to wait until class is over until I can respond. I have to find 20 sources for an annotated bibliography, I can't go finding bloggers I read and freak them out by some weirdo they don't know giving them an award. :)

Tomorrow is Tuesday, so it's time for the weekly, 'the end of the world is coming in the form of sleet and freezing rain' freak-out, aka Winter Weather Advisory. Here's how ridiculous this has become - I'm no longer terrified at the mention of snow. That's what being threatened every five days with it will do, turn Ms. Biggest Chicken About Driving On Ice Ever into Ms. Oh Well There's Nothing I Can Do About It and I Have Insurance Anyway.

Two months from today, we will have left on vacation. Wow. (Needless to say, despite my new-found non-terror over ice, I'm hoping they still aren't carrying on the Tuesday Tradition of Doom.) Next month, Jenny from the Blog, Ragged, and I will be heading to Greencastle. And, I get two Fridays off before then. More fun than you can shake a stick at. 'Bout time.

Greencastle shall be entertaining. :)

The girls were convinced that every time I went to eat at Penn Station, school got canceled 1 hour early and then we had no school for the next 2 days. It happened twice, but the 3rd time was the "charm", I broke the curse.

It's 10:13, do you know where your Blackboard posts are?

Well, it's Sunday evening, so I have just completed my homework for the week, and don't have that hanging over my head anymore. So ready to be done with this degree. Check the sidebar, and you can keep track along with me. Wow. That's a lot of days.

Tomorrow, courtesy of Daylight Savings Time, I will be going to work in the dark, once again. It had just gotten tolerable, now back to this. Argh.

I took pictures of all my socks, and plan to slowly get them all added to Ravelry. Fear not, if you really want to see them, they will be on Flickr, too.

This weekend, there was the annual knitting workshop in our little town. I wasn't sure if I was going, first because we had planned to be in KY, then later because we haven't exactly been the house of health. But I did get to go yesterday, and worked on a scarf, fore-shortened due to the limited yarn, but lovely nonetheless.

I think that's it from this neck of the woods. The National Weather Service says after tomorrow, the temps should stay in the 50s. Come on, spring!

But for how long? Do we trust them to be telling the truth. Love the colors in the scarf.

I'll see your broken dinger, and raise you a broken Flickr

First of all, go read Miss Ragged's post so you can lift your mind from the gutter, if need be.

Second, it's not so much broke, as gorged. I hit the limit of the free account, namely 200 pictures. Uploading the 66 sock pictures might have been a bit much. So now, I am faced with the choice of upgrading to a Pro account, or having my pictures remain hidden forever. That's right, my pictures are being held for ransom. And seeing as Flickr is the life-blood for Ravelry browsing, I just might have to give in.

And the interesting part is the 66 sock pictures are not even all of the socks I've made. When I'm washing and laying all of them out to dry, it seems like a lot. But quickly scanning through the pics, there's not really too many. Relatively speaking, of course.

DST is driving us all mad. Seriously, I have jet lag this week. And it feels bad. Tomorrow, I just might nap intermittently at work.

Nothing new on the knitting front. I'm trying to make the sleeves work on the Must Have Cardigan, but I'm not sure of the ultimate success of this strategy. Hopefully, I will be finished this weekend, and maybe, just maybe, it won't all end in tears. (Reference, anyone? There might be numerous ones, but there's a particular one I have in mind.)

Hate DST. It sucks.

66 sock pictures? Holy smokes woman! I don't think I'm there yet. lol

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

There's some bright green for you. And look how the the colors seem to drift across the socks. I love them, love them, love them. As a reminder, this is Stone Barn Fiber's Gypsy Girl Creations Fingering - Goblin. Go see Cathi and buy some stuff. (I don't get any kick-back, other than keeping her in business means more beautiful sock yarn for all.) And spinning fibers. Lovely spinning fibers. And new colors. Clearly, she did not get the memo that I have a car and am going on vacation and cannot be buying yarn willy-nilly. :)

We were in KY this past weekend, and it almost wasn't fair.

Our easter flowers aren't even four inches tall yet. :(

Later this week - check back for a Must Have sighting.

Should I stay or should I go?

My blog is about to expire in two days, so I have to pay for it, or have the blog wiped out. That's right, you have to pay at Blog-City. Now, I can pay for it a bit at a time, or $45 for a year, plus two months free. The question - do I want to? I'm also facing paying for an account at Flickr. Our Internet, as I recall, promised an introductory price for a year, but six months later has upped the price. Seems like every place is demanding more money. No one, however, seems to be handing me any more money.

I'll probably stay here, because moving would be too much trouble. :(

The Must Have Cardigan is done. I still need to give it a bath and block it out a bit. And, I've picked the Tweedy Pullover back up. There's one sleeve to go, plus the button bands. Of course, no pictures. I'm concerned about the sleeve (When am I not?). I think the ribbing is going to be too drawing, creating unflattering mutton sleeves. So, I have sewn front and back together, then I will sew in a sleeve, seam it up, and see what I think. I'm prepared to rip out if necessary.

Presuming the sleeves go better than what I think, I may try to tackle the not-really-Philosopher's Wool sweater. Without intending to, I have declared war on the UFOs. If I haven't finished them by now, and don't want to work on them now, I never will. I know of one that's getting frogged. I don't think it's even made an appearance on the blog.

The larger problem is sweaters that are all done but the closures. Samus - needs a zipper sewn in (I have said zipper); Jeremy's Jacket (aka Kristi's Kardigan) - needs beautiful buttons that match it perfectly; Must Have - needs buttons; Top-down Raglan - needs buttons; and soon, the Tweedy Pullover is going to - you guessed it - need buttons.

Button, button, who's got the button? Because I sure don't.

Come to wordpress. :) Also, take a breather. You need it.
'Chris' left this comment on 23 Mar 08
Just sew in that zipper already! Or bring it to me and I will sew it in. I have done enough of them to not fear them. See you at Greencastle?
'A visitor' left this comment on 23 Mar 08
I bit the bullet an paid for flickr. It killed me, but I had no choice.
'A visitor' left this comment on 22 Mar 08
Come to the blogspot. It sucks and it's free.

Yup, still here.

Well, obviously, I kept the blog. What the heck, it's only money.

This week has been a bit trying (in ways I will not go into here), so I need to focus on the good stuff right now.

I found buttons for two sweaters.

Buttons brought to you courtesy of JoAnn's Fabrics. Or is it a courtesy when I had to pay for 'em? Anyway, I'm tickled with both of them. This marks two UFOs off the list. I've also picked the Silver Moon Evening Coat back up. Oh, I just about forgot - one more FO.

Love these socks. Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em.

In other happy news, it's less than two weeks to Greencastle . I am ready to go. Two stops at the OG, maybe a side trip to Starbucks, and more fiber than you can shake a stick at. Sweet.

Hope life is better for you.
