March 2008 (BC)

Now then, where was I?

Okay, so I probably can't recreate the lost post, and most of my disgust was directed at the chucklehead that is supposed to be running our country and have our best interests at heart (I'm not mistaken about that, am I?), not knowing that gas is approaching $4 a gallon, and oh, that might impact, um, everybody. But, at least we're not in a recession. Whew, what a relief!

Alright, can't talk about him anymore or my head will explode.

We're trying to plot our vacation, and I attempted to make reservations today, only to get an answering machine and as of yet, no call-back. :( It's frustrating to be ready to get things ironed out, and be stuck. But, it is a bed-and-breakfast, not a national chain, and with the benefits of that comes with the reality that they are only two people. So I will wait. I hate wait. (Recognize that, Farmie?)

Knitting-wise, I am in the final rows of the Keepsake Shawl. If I get it finished tonight, I will try to get pictures tomorrow. Once it is done, I'm going to try to finish one (or some) of the UFOs. I have the Must Have Cardigan (stupid sleeves!), the Silver Moon Evening Coat, the not-really Philosopher's Wool sweater, Vail, the un-named pink lace sweater, and a few others that may not make it off the island.

I have come to the realization that I absolutely hate working on my master's degree. So much so, that I have decided that by next spring, I must be done. So, I will be taking one class this summer, two in the fall, then the thesis class next spring. Fourteen months to go. I think I need one of those nifty count-downers for it on the blog. I have an annotated bibliography that I have to get done this weekend. 20 sources. Have I started it? Nope. How I'm going to be motivated enough to do two classes, I don't know, but it may involve a lot of coffee.

Okay, I think that's all I needed to say.

Not asking him to do anything about it, just asking for him to care. Or at least fake caring. I'm not naive enough to think that any one person can do anything in Washington. However, the leader of the country should at least come off as having some compassion for the average person. Would "I know that's going to hurt the American family and I will do what I can to influence a positive change in that matter" been too much to ask for? Apparently.

Gas prices are based on supply and demand. And right now, demand is high with surges in Asian consumption. http://peoplesgeography.com/2007/06/18/world-petrol-price-comparison-its-a-gas-gas-gas/ (Summer 2007) This compares what world prices are. I'd say we are very lucky. Blame Bush for whatever you feel you need to, but the price of gas is far from his control. Talk to Congress about gas taxes. Talk to your state about gas taxes.

How's the shawl coming? I can't wait to see it done.

Progress by the boatloads

At 8:53 pm . . . .

Wait, let's try that again . . . .

And in a reclining pose . . .

Ends all tucked in, just needs blocked. I was doing really well keeping up on the ends with each color change, until the end when the changes were happening faster and I was just excited to get finished.

To say I'm thrilled with the project is an understatement. Now, maybe I can get it blocked and a picture in daylight. Maybe.

Also, the Inn called me back and we are booked into a lovely bed and breakfast in Springfield, MO. It's now officially a vacation. Woohoo!

Why, yes I am avoiding homework, how could you tell?

(I know this has made the rounds before, but see the above title)

Stole off of another blog, I thought I would see how many of these I have seen. Not all of the ones I've seen have been my idea, some I was just an innocent bystander. Take for instance, The Notebook. Not my kind of movie at all. The way to tell if it's my kind of movie is if it has 1) vampires, 2) aliens, 3) ghosts, 4)action/adventure or 5) unbelievable quirkiness. I would have put my personal commentary on each one, but then if you want to play along, you would have to remove it all. Just know that some were nothing more than being too lazy to change the channel on a Saturday morning, and if quizzed, I would have no idea of the plot, characters, or anything meaningful. Similarly, there could be some on there I forgot I've watched.

I think I counted 136. The blog I got it from said if you marked more than 83 you had no life. She had 164, and preferred to think it was a sign you were in the mid-to-late 30's and weren't too old for going to the movies. I like that take. And besides, not my fault the creator of the list put so many of my favorites (Star Wars, Matrix, X-Men, etc.) on there.

I counted 118. Definitely boosts your score if you are older. I should have given myself double credit for a few of them as I have seen more than one version of said movie (Freaky Friday, Grinch, Flubber, King kong...) Geez. I am getting old!

88. So close to a life.

Random Stuff

So I'll just thank Ragged. :) The rules for the “You Make My Day” award are to re-present it to 10 people whose blogs bring you happiness and inspiration and make you feel happy about blog land. Let them know through email

Just overheard on a commercial, "If you or a loved one has experienced serious injury or death from using this product, contact our law offices immediately." Yes, if you have experienced death from using that product, I think you need to give them a call. Right now.

Ragged gave me a "You Make My Day"Award. I'm very appreciative, but I'm afraid I will have to wait until class is over until I can respond. I have to find 20 sources for an annotated bibliography, I can't go finding bloggers I read and freak them out by some weirdo they don't know giving them an award. :)

Tomorrow is Tuesday, so it's time for the weekly, 'the end of the world is coming in the form of sleet and freezing rain' freak-out, aka Winter Weather Advisory. Here's how ridiculous this has become - I'm no longer terrified at the mention of snow. That's what being threatened every five days with it will do, turn Ms. Biggest Chicken About Driving On Ice Ever into Ms. Oh Well There's Nothing I Can Do About It and I Have Insurance Anyway.

Two months from today, we will have left on vacation. Wow. (Needless to say, despite my new-found non-terror over ice, I'm hoping they still aren't carrying on the Tuesday Tradition of Doom.) Next month, Jenny from the Blog, Ragged, and I will be heading to Greencastle. And, I get two Fridays off before then. More fun than you can shake a stick at. 'Bout time.

The girls were convinced that every time I went to eat at Penn Station, school got canceled 1 hour early and then we had no school for the next 2 days. It happened twice, but the 3rd time was the "charm", I broke the curse.

It's 10:13, do you know where your Blackboard posts are?

Well, it's Sunday evening, so I have just completed my homework for the week, and don't have that hanging over my head anymore. So ready to be done with this degree. Check the sidebar, and you can keep track along with me. Wow. That's a lot of days.

Tomorrow, courtesy of Daylight Savings Time, I will be going to work in the dark, once again. It had just gotten tolerable, now back to this. Argh.

I took pictures of all my socks, and plan to slowly get them all added to Ravelry. Fear not, if you really want to see them, they will be on Flickr, too.

This weekend, there was the annual knitting workshop in our little town. I wasn't sure if I was going, first because we had planned to be in KY, then later because we haven't exactly been the house of health. But I did get to go yesterday, and worked on a scarf, fore-shortened due to the limited yarn, but lovely nonetheless.

I think that's it from this neck of the woods. The National Weather Service says after tomorrow, the temps should stay in the 50s. Come on, spring!

But for how long? Do we trust them to be telling the truth. Love the colors in the scarf.

I'll see your broken dinger, and raise you a broken Flickr

First of all, go read Miss Ragged's post so you can lift your mind from the gutter, if need be.

Second, it's not so much broke, as gorged. I hit the limit of the free account, namely 200 pictures. Uploading the 66 sock pictures might have been a bit much. So now, I am faced with the choice of upgrading to a Pro account, or having my pictures remain hidden forever. That's right, my pictures are being held for ransom. And seeing as Flickr is the life-blood for Ravelry browsing, I just might have to give in.

And the interesting part is the 66 sock pictures are not even all of the socks I've made. When I'm washing and laying all of them out to dry, it seems like a lot. But quickly scanning through the pics, there's not really too many. Relatively speaking, of course.

DST is driving us all mad. Seriously, I have jet lag this week. And it feels bad. Tomorrow, I just might nap intermittently at work.

Nothing new on the knitting front. I'm trying to make the sleeves work on the Must Have Cardigan, but I'm not sure of the ultimate success of this strategy. Hopefully, I will be finished this weekend, and maybe, just maybe, it won't all end in tears. (Reference, anyone? There might be numerous ones, but there's a particular one I have in mind.)

Hate DST. It sucks.

66 sock pictures? Holy smokes woman! I don't think I'm there yet. lol

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

There's some bright green for you. And look how the the colors seem to drift across the socks. I love them, love them, love them. As a reminder, this is Stone Barn Fiber's Gypsy Girl Creations Fingering - Goblin. Go see Cathi and buy some stuff. (I don't get any kick-back, other than keeping her in business means more beautiful sock yarn for all.) And spinning fibers. Lovely spinning fibers. And new colors. Clearly, she did not get the memo that I have a car and am going on vacation and cannot be buying yarn willy-nilly. :)

We were in KY this past weekend, and it almost wasn't fair.

Our easter flowers aren't even four inches tall yet. :(

Later this week - check back for a Must Have sighting.

Should I stay or should I go?

My blog is about to expire in two days, so I have to pay for it, or have the blog wiped out. That's right, you have to pay at Blog-City. Now, I can pay for it a bit at a time, or $45 for a year, plus two months free. The question - do I want to? I'm also facing paying for an account at Flickr. Our Internet, as I recall, promised an introductory price for a year, but six months later has upped the price. Seems like every place is demanding more money. No one, however, seems to be handing me any more money.

I'll probably stay here, because moving would be too much trouble. :(

The Must Have Cardigan is done. I still need to give it a bath and block it out a bit. And, I've picked the Tweedy Pullover back up. There's one sleeve to go, plus the button bands. Of course, no pictures. I'm concerned about the sleeve (When am I not?). I think the ribbing is going to be too drawing, creating unflattering mutton sleeves. So, I have sewn front and back together, then I will sew in a sleeve, seam it up, and see what I think. I'm prepared to rip out if necessary.

Presuming the sleeves go better than what I think, I may try to tackle the not-really-Philosopher's Wool sweater. Without intending to, I have declared war on the UFOs. If I haven't finished them by now, and don't want to work on them now, I never will. I know of one that's getting frogged. I don't think it's even made an appearance on the blog.

The larger problem is sweaters that are all done but the closures. Samus - needs a zipper sewn in (I have said zipper); Jeremy's Jacket (aka Kristi's Kardigan) - needs beautiful buttons that match it perfectly; Must Have - needs buttons; Top-down Raglan - needs buttons; and soon, the Tweedy Pullover is going to - you guessed it - need buttons.

Button, button, who's got the button? Because I sure don't.

Come to wordpress. :) Also, take a breather. You need it.

Just sew in that zipper already! Or bring it to me and I will sew it in. I have done enough of them to not fear them. See you at Greencastle?

I bit the bullet an paid for flickr. It killed me, but I had no choice.
'A visitor' left this comment on 22 Mar 08
Come to the blogspot. It sucks and it's free.

Yup, still here.

Well, obviously, I kept the blog. What the heck, it's only money.

This week has been a bit trying (in ways I will not go into here), so I need to focus on the good stuff right now.

I found buttons for two sweaters.

Buttons brought to you courtesy of JoAnn's Fabrics. Or is it a courtesy when I had to pay for 'em? Anyway, I'm tickled with both of them. This marks two UFOs off the list. I've also picked the Silver Moon Evening Coat back up. Oh, I just about forgot - one more FO.

Love these socks. Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em.

In other happy news, it's less than two weeks to Greencastle . I am ready to go. Two stops at the OG, maybe a side trip to Starbucks, and more fiber than you can shake a stick at. Sweet.

February 2008 (BC)

The snow day that wasn't

7"-10", they said. Some areas could see up to a foot, they said. They lied.

Instead, we got freezing rain and a mere dusting of snow.

See, I was banking on getting a whole bunch of snow, so I wouldn't look pathetic when I didn't go into work. That, and I really wanted snow ice cream. (Yes, I know it can kill you. Don't care.)

But clearly I don't have a problem with looking pathetic, because home, I am. Snugged up in the recliner, drinking Starbucks Christmas Blend coffee, wondering why the cats aren't passed out in front of the heater, and thinking this probably means they've found some trouble to get into.

Today will also most likely contain a great deal of knitting. Here's a sampling of the knitting I have been doing.

That's the fronts of the Must Have Cardigan attached to the back. Once I finally picked this back up, I have been truckin' on it.

Those are Dashing, from Knitty made of Artyarns Supermerino, color 106. Look at the neat in progress shot.

And finally, the Madtinis for me are done.

This is a pattern from the first Sock Madness (that I won, if you all will recall the sleep-starved nights) in STR Mediumweight Love in Idleness. When I knit this for competition, I timed the actual knitting time spent on them (yes, it was one of those releases that was snargled up by work) was 11 1/2 hours. I smoked them. This time, I extended the pattern onto the foot, and was knitting Dashing and on the Must Have, but it felt like they took For. Ever. Relatively speaking, of course.

Okay, time to go surf the 'Nets and play some Mahjong. A girl could get used to this.

Love the Must Have. I enjoyed knitting mine with all the interesting cables. Looking good.

I hate it when that happens

Patience, I will explain.

I was knitting on my sleeves for the Must Have, gamely following the pattern. I began to suspect there might be a problem, but I soldiered on.

Those are way too narrow. My gauge was a little on the small side, so I made the size (XL, btw) that would accommodate that (yup, I did the maths and everything) and the problem lies in the fact it's designed to only be 13 1/2" at the widest part of the sleeve. These sleeves are not going to work. It's going to require ripping out.

My response? Sleeves? What sleeves? I don't have any sleeves. No sleeves -poof!- no problem, so let's start the Keepsake Shawl!

Don't you like how I narrowly avoided having a real problem?

Mmmm, Koi-gooey goodness. Much better than sleeves. Not that I have any sleeves.

This is the tentative plan, which has already had a switch, and may have more, depending on if the Koigu I erm, may or may not have won on eBay today proves to be a good fit in it.

I've already swapped the third skein from the left (the dark purple) with the sixth lighter skein. Of course, it's all I want to do. Homework? Meh. Blah. I don't wanna work, I just want to knit with the yarn all day; I don't wanna play, I just want to knit with the yarn all day. (Five points if you get that reference)

I can never pass up a good music challenge: Todd Rundgren - Bang on the Drum All Day.

Stick-to-it-tive-ness, I has it.

Okay, so I had this great plan that I was going to blog more. Well, Ravelry tends to make one forget. But, not everyone is on Ravelry, and not everything I have to say is knitting-related. (although, it's less controversial if I stick to knitting) Then there's the class. I have an AB due Feb. 29, and my instructor said I needed to narrow my scope of research. Don' wanna. Wanna knit.

Still in love with it. More amazing, have not started a pair of socks since I started the shawl. Read that last statement again, to get the full effect. Behold the Power of Koigu.

And, I'm pleased to report, one of the skeins I won last weekend matches in with the other shades perfectly.

The upper one is going in the shawl, in place of the more pinky-skein in the lineup shot below, with a minor bit of rearranging. The bottom one is lovely in its own right, and may be part of a Charlotte's Web in the future.

In the non-knitting arena, the time had finally come to part with my beloved Red Truck. I had Red Truck over 12 years, but it was time to allow someone else to hopefully restore her to some of her former glory. Now, staying in the all-Chrysler product household tradition, we will be searching for a Dodge Charger. preferably in the gray range. I have always wanted a gray vehicle, you know, other than wanting the purple truck, which never fear, is staying in the family.

And now, I'll leave you with the perfect cure for a blustery day like today.

Mmm, mmm, good.

I love gray and silver vehicles.

Charge(r)!!!!!!

Buy this key fob for $17,250

Get a Charger free!!!!!

Rrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, we found our car. The timeline on this whole thing was a whirlwind: Feb. 9 - put Red Truck our for sale; Feb 16 - sold Red Truck; Feb. 19 - bought the Charger.

We had been surfin' the Webs looking at what options there were, and we saw this car once, but wasn't in the serious hunt. Then last night, Ramblin' looked again, and there it was, in my old stomping grounds. The color we wanted, the engine we wanted, the mileage we wanted, and not too far off the price we wanted. We had planned to do some wrangling on the price after we did the test drive, but the guy didn't even give us a chance.

And by that, I mean he dropped the price over $1700 when I just called to see about scheduling a test drive, dropping it below the price we were hoping for. Wow! He had quoted me an interest rate that was very reasonable, but when I called my bank, they beat it by 1.25% Yowza!!! I didn't do the paperwork then, the bank said I could do that tomorrow. When we told him we wanted it and that we would get the loan and pick it up Saturday, he insisted we didn't need to make another trip, and told me to write a check, take the car and call when the money is in the account. Holy Moly!!!!!

This has been one of the best car-buying experiences. So, if anyone has the opportunity to do business with Lemond's Chrysler Center, they are wonderful and tell them Kristi sent you. I was absolutely dreading even having to speak to a dealer, and now I want to write him a thank you note.

Ragged and Cynical, think we can manage going to Springfield, MO in this?

And now, if you'll excuse me, spending money takes a lot out of a person. I think I need a nap.

That's all, folks!!!

What a trip

Today, we were scheduled to give a presentation about our Distance Education program in a town over three hours away. Yes, we were aware there was a winter storm on the way, but apparently that didn't matter.

So, I had to get up at 4:45 am (which is an hour earlier than normal, and for this girl, that's tough) and meet up with my boss and another co-worker, then head to Greensburg, IN. On the very twisty, twervy roads, my coworker, who was prepared for car-sickness, did indeed get car-sick. I'm not great with the car rides on those kind of roads either, and I am the type that if I even hear someone retching, the sound alone is enough to make me start. I was valiantly fight off the urge to join her.

We arrive, give our presentation in the space of about 1/2 hour, and are asked to stay for lunch (yes, the winter storm is still approaching). My coworker is feeling no better, and beginning to suspect it may be more than car-sickness and goes to lay down in the car while we lunch with the group. Lunch is chicken salad (another interesting note about me: I will eat nothing with mayonnaise), so I had chips. Someone at the meeting recommended we take the Interstates back, so we head out to 74 to Indy. Since my boss drove us up there, she asked me to drive back.

Hmmm, don't have an atlas, not sure where 74 comes in to Indy, should we take 465 north or south? Guess south, doesn't seem right, stop to turn around, now has become 465 East or West, ask at a gas station, find out we need West, Big Boss calls wondering where we are, telling us to hurry, there's an ice storm on the way. Get back on the road, find 70, head to Terre Haute. Coworker still feels awful, but not ready to throw up, so it's a small improvement. South of Terre Haute, the ice begins. Then becomes freezing rain. Then sleet. Then trades off or is a combination of any of the three. Oh yes, did I mention my boss asked me to drive back? My least favorite thing in the world to do is drive on snow/ice. We had to have the defroster going full blast to keep the windshield from icing up.

We finally arrive back at the school at 4:00 (3:00 CST), chisel ice off the windows of our cars, and after returning the company car, all head our separate ways.

I'm still driving the truck, so I put her in 4x4 and off I went, at the blazing speed of 30-40 mph. My windshield wipers were icing up, making visibility pretty interesting.

When I got home, Ramblin' had coffee ready. And I was more than ready for coffee, let me tell you.

January 2008 (BC)

Um . . . oh . . . hi!

In my determination to enjoy break and not spend the whole time on the computer, I've forgotten my bloggy friends, haven't I?

Well, it's 2008. 2007 was pretty good, can't complain. Much of the year so far has been registering students and fielding odd questions. Like the Business major who, upon hearing my recommendation for taking Intro to Business, said, "Why would you recommend that? I don't really like business stuff." Great, you'll go far. Oy.

Knitting has happened. Yay!

First, the x-mas birthday socks were finished and given to the proud recipient. Always knit for grateful people.

Then, I started some socks for me.

They are from the Sock Madness pattern Madtini, in STR medium-weight Love in Idleness.

And, I finished the handspun top-down cardigan (no buttons yet and the ends aren't tucked in, but the knitting is done).

It's never going to be light enough until April, so please ignore the horrid lighting.

And one more.

Okay, I guess that's the update for now. I don't know of anything else exciting to say.

Well, you don't have to be entertaining every time. We like hearing that you're alive too. :)

I've gone Loopy

For a long time, I have stalked the Loopy Ewe website. It's a site full of sock yarns - big surprise that I would be fascinated by it. The real surprise is that I hadn't ordered from there before.

But for x-mas, Ragged got me a gift certificate to the Loopy Ewe. And finally, I have placed the first of what will probably many orders.

The trick to shopping there is to be quick. Sheri 'sneaks up' yarn on the website, so you never know when exactly it will be posted. Some yarn, like Wollmeise, sells out immediately. Others might linger for a bit, but if you want it, grab it. And checkout quick, 'cause if someone else nabs something that is in your cart and checks out, it's gone. I missed some Claudia Handpaint Antique Jeans, which had been there a while, just from not ordering when I should.

I thought it would be good if my first order wasn't during the mass-hysteria of a sneak-up. My goal was to get some yarns I hadn't worked with before, and that I couldn't get from other sources. Okay, so my sources are basically Atkinson Farm Yarns and Greencastle (Plus Four Ladies and the Village Knitter when I can rouse myself to go to Evansville. I still haven't been to Yarn Along in KY. I'm pathetic.). My selections ended up being Claudia Handpaint Purple Earth and Apple Laine Grape Harvest (though later I realized I had wanted Pretty in Purple instead, and attached a note on the order). Gee, they're purple yarns, even bigger surprise.

This woman is in St. Louis. I can so drive there. Hoo-boy.

Welcome to my world! lol I love Sherri and the Loopy Ewe and it's really not that far from West Lafayette. I could so drive there too.

We're on our way to being Loopy Groupies. And when you guys visit, we'll have to fix the fact you haven't been to Yarn Along!

Loopy Loot

Ta-da! There is the haul from my first Loopy order. On the left is the Apple Laine Apple Pie in Grape Harvest. The pink is quite a bit more pink than I care for, but it's a lovely yarn. On the right is the Claudia Handpaint Fingering in Purple Earth. I really love that yarn. And scattered amongst them are the little gifties that are part of the Loopy Experience - samples of Regia Bamboo and Silk, plus handy little needle inventories. Let's get a closer look at that Purple Earth.

Me likey.

While I'm stocking up on sock yarn ('cause if you will remember , I don't have much) ((and I just ordered some more from Stone Barn Fibers today)), I am knitting on other stuff than just socks.

That is the Lily Cardigan by Marie Grace Smith, out of Classic Elite Fame, which sadly, has been discontinued.

And then, there is Morrigan.

Here's a closer look, with a bit more accurate color.

The Morrigan, she is not a quick knit. For starters, she's on size 3. Second, instead of like most arans that have cabling and twisting of stitches on the right side and knitting the knits and purling the purls on the wrong side, you have to be alert on the wrong side rows as well. On her wrong side, some cables have work, some stitches are worked through the back loops, but not all. There are no 'resting' rows in Morrigan. However, I fully expect to love it when it's done. That's just going to be a looooong time from now.

Also, I bought even more yarn. So sue me. This week, 1) my mom's car got hit by a deer (when there is side damage only on the car, that means the deer hit you and that they need better brakes.), 2) I did not get the better-paying, more techie job I was hoping for, and 3) Ramblin sustained a knee injury at work. There needed to be some joy.

And you can't get much more joyful than alpaca.

Now, alpaca does not fix cars or heal knees, but it keeps me from getting too beat down by life, which makes me a more effective support person to others. Or it keeps me from strangling people who cannot read their e-mails which EXPLICITLY TELLS THEM HOW TO ACCESS THEIR COURSE AND OBTAIN COURSE MATERIALS. AND YOU DID TOO GET YOUR E-MAIL!!!!!!

Did I mention the new term started?

Sorry it's back to the grindstone for you. Hopefully as the students get further from the start they will smarten up?

Drat, what a rotten week. You deserve all the yarn your heart desires. (Mmmm, the Ultra Alpaca is loverly.)

Eeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eeeee, eeeeeeeeeeee,eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Loopy Ewe had the sneak-up tonight and I got Wollmeise!!!!!!!!!!!!! Two skeins!!!!!!!! (If I can believe the checkout, and I think I can) EEEeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Picture me running around the room in circles screaming EEEEEeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 'cause Ramblin has a headache and I can't do that in real life)

The non-knitting readers of this blog have no idea what I'm yammering about, but that's okay, because WE know, don't we knitters? Yep, it's 'Freak out the muggles' time!

EEEEEEeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was about 8:40 when I discovered it was snuck up, and by 9:00, it was all gone. I have no idea how many skeins she moved, but let me tell you, that stuff flew.

Eeeee!!!!!!

In other "for-the-love-of-Herbert-will-you-quit-shrieking-about-your-yarn-and-post" news, this extra long weekend will find us traveling south for a visit with our favorite folks, Ragged and Cynical. The temps might actually force us to do what we always say we're going to do - stay in, drink coffee, visit, and knit (Ragged and I, anyway).

And also, I'm out of love with the Lily cardigan. Love the pattern, but the yarn is not inspiring for this particular sweater. And it's got this pink in it that's getting on my nerves. It could be a rip out, overdye, and pick some other neat yarn for the cardigan.

'Cause you know, it's not like I have any other yarn. :)

This really needs to stop

Okay, so I believe I mentioned I ordered yarn from Stone Barn Fibers .

That is Gypsy Girl Creations Goblin. Yum. Then, in the process of waiting for that, I believe I mentioned I ordered this from The Loopy Ewe .

Yes, Wollmeise (eeeeeee!!!!!) is even more vibrant in person. That's Lowenzahn (Dandelion) on the left, Rittersporn (Delphinium) on the right. That should be enough to satisfy a person, shouldn't it?

Well, when you go to the yarn shop to pick up a skein of yarn for a friend and in the midst of your good samaritanism, you happen to pick up a skein of some yarn you have admired for a long time. The devious yarn shop owner says, "Oh, funny you should pick that up, I'm marking it 30% off. The Artyarns, too" which of course is another yarn you've been admiring.

Uh-huh. See how she is? Totally not my fault.

Now, if you've been paying attention, you will have noticed a theme.

I'm not predictable in the least, am I?

I would love to say at this point, "Oh yeah? Well my current knitting project isn't green or purple!"

But it simply wouldn't be true. Sigh.

This blog post brought to you by the colors Green and Purple.

And just when did you cast that on? Or are you that speedy that you abandon Lily and whip this up in a day or two? Yes, you are that speedy.

I love you, Ramblin'!

You are a saint for putting up with Rambles so long. Congratulations!

Random thoughts from my interesting mind

Well, a whole week went by and I didn't purchase any green and purple yarn. But I am working on a project with some of it. Pictures soon, I just forgot to take them when the light was good.

Yesterday, I completed a monumental task - I posted the Koigu stash on Ravelry. I have 42 skeins of Koigu. Decadent, isn't it? I really have to make something with it. I know I want to do the Keepsake Shawl. Do I make it in the shades of red or shades of purple? Okay, stop laughing out there, I have enough of either one to make a go of it.

I am actually enjoying the class I'm taking this semester. It's online, as it's supposed to be, and we have some really good discussion board posts. It's Literature and the Environment, and the readings have been very thought-provoking thus far. And last weekend, we all learned that sometimes a honey tree ain't a honey tree. Don't ask. Trust me. Don't ask.

In an attempt to do small things to have a good impact on our health, Ramblin and I have switched to Splenda-sweetened tea. No, we don't drink it that sweet, we just drink that much of it. If you figure one cup of sugar has 770 calories, one cup to a gallon, five gallons a week = 3850 calories. Divide that between the two of us, and you have 1925 calories consumed. On a beverage. That's just wrong. And yes, I know ten years from now they will discover that consuming mass amounts of Splenda leads to your arms falling off and your skin turning green, but right now I can't worry about that.

And even though it's almost over, I'd like to give a birthday shout-out to Brando. Hope it was happy!

You think that's bad, we've got a gal who comes into Starbucks all the time and gets an iced coffee with 8 pumps of classic syrup and 6 pumps of caramel. Talk about sweet! Ewww.. I figured it up and she's getting about 700 calories in each one! If she comes in everyday (don't know if she does or not) that's 4,900 calories a week!! Egad!

Thanks for the B'day wish it was GOOD. I am the oldest of us all again :(, minus wonderful ragged, but of us 73'ers.

Maybe you should throw all that Koigu in the tub that has been dried and cleaned and prepared to have his senses awakened by the beauty and feel of superior yarn, and have Ramblin take a pic of you cause that is alot of GOOD yarn.

I am hightailing it over to Ravelry right now, just to look at your Koigu stash. Did you know that I've never seen Koigu in the wild? In fact, I have only knit with it one time and it was gift yarn. lol So from where I'm sitting it seems more like lush than decadent. ;)
